One of the unique things about visiting WDW is the Magic Bands. If you are new to this, you might be wondering what they are and what they do.
The Magic Bands are waterproof bracelets that can be your park ticket, room key, fastpass ticket, magical express ticket (if you are flying in to Orlando's airport) and can even be used in place of your credit card.
Let me get into further detail.
If you are staying on site, you will receive magic bands at no extra charge. When you log in to MyDisneyExperience.com you will be asked if you would like to customize your magic band once you make your hotel reservation. You can customize the name on the inside of the band, and choose from the colors they have available. Currently the colors are red, blue, green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, and grey.
**UPDATE: You are now allowed to pay for an upgrade for your magic band if you don't want the plain colors. You will be able to choose from over 30 different designs. They will deduct $14.99 off the original price of the design you chose, however, the "premium" magic bands are constantly selling out. Keep checking the website until you see a band you like.**
You have a deadline to do this, and then they will ship your bands to your mailing address. If you do not customize them before the deadline (or are making a last minute trip) you will receive generic grey bands at check-in.
When you are checking-in, you can designate a card that you can charge purchases to when using your band. Don't worry, you select a pin at this time, so that whenever you use your band to make a charge, you have to enter your pin. The magic bands are accepted anywhere on Disney property that you can use a credit card.
If your park tickets are connected to your mydisneyexperience account, then you can use these magicbands to enter the theme parks in place of your ticket card. Once you make your fastpass selections, you can walk up to the ride, and scan your band to redeem your fastpass.
NOTE!! If you are flying in, be sure to keep your magic bands with you in your carry on so you have them accessible for the magical express. If you are driving in, keep them in the car with you (not the trunk) so you can have the parking lot attendants at the hotels scan them and let you in.
If you are not staying on site, you can still use a magic band for your tickets and fastpasses, but you will have to pay for these. They can be purchased at shopdisney.com. You cannot use them for purchases, as you will not be able to designate a card.
