Planning your Magical Vacation- Part 2b. Where to stay- Offsite?

So now that we've gone over all the options within the Walt Disney World Resort, remember that you have a plethora of options off-site as well. There are numerous hotels within the Disney Springs area, a couple of resorts scattered throughout the Walt Disney World Resort that are not "Disney" resorts but still near/on property, and many options further out from the parks.

Disney Springs:

This area has many different hotels to choose from, and some come with Extra Magic Hours!

These hotels have reached an agreement with Disney and provide extra time in the parks:

~Best Western Lake Buena Vista

~B Resort & Spa Lake Buena Vista

~DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Orlando

~Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace

~Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista

~Holiday Inn Orlando

~Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista

~Wyndham Lake Buena Vista

This list can change at any time, so please check the Disney website for up to date information. These Disney Springs area hotels are, as the name implies, close to Disney Springs. You can walk (kind of a long walk), drive, or take transportation over there. You are also still close to the parks, and many of these hotels offer private shuttle service to and from the parks. Amenities and services vary by hotel, so please visit the website for each individual hotel for more information.

Other Disney area hotels:

Seemingly "on-property," there are a few additional hotels. They are still very close to the parks, and some of these (if not all) have shuttle service to the parks. This is a short list and not all inclusive:

Walt Disney's Swan and Dolphin Hotels*

Shades of Green Resort*

Four Seasons Resort Orlando*

Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek*

Waldorf Astoria Orlando*

*These hotels are currently offering Extra Magic Hours as well; valid theme park admission and hotel ID are required (UPDATE: Added to this list as of 3/1/19 are the Hilton Bonnet Creek and Waldorf Asotia hotels)

Swan and Dolphin Resorts are owned by the SPG hotel group, but have an extremely convenient location in between Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. They also offer Disney Shuttle service to and from the parks, and advanced FastPass planning (60 days). It's most of the perks of a Disney hotel, but not actually a Disney hotel. Perks not provided are magic bands and Disney's Magical Express.

Shades of Green is a resort available to members and family of the Military. Thank you for your service! It is also located near the parks. They have their own shuttle service, and does not have magic bands or Magical Express service. Their website does not list whether they receive the advanced Fastpass+ benefit.

Four Seasons offers Disney Shuttle service to and from the parks and advanced FastPass+ planning. They do not have magic bands or Magical Express service.

Other hotels:

There are many hotels nearby that offer a variety of different amenities. There are motels, hotels, resorts, etc. Some are owned by timeshare companies, some are national chains, some are "mom and pop" motels. There are a variety of price options (some even more expensive than the Disney hotels) for everyone to choose from. It all depends on your needs. These hotels that provide shuttle service may have set times for their shuttles rather than continuous service. This may put a damper on your plans if you happen to miss the shuttle.

Other options:

Do you need more space? Kitchenette? Multiple bedrooms? Staying for a week or longer? Consider renting a home nearby. There are multiple websites that have homes available for vacation rentals. This may give you the extra space you need. Some people have even told me they rent a home to cut out some of the "Disney" during their vacation. Families with older teens may feel this way. You can even rent a home with a private pool.
